alexander rodin support action
“Breaking the chains of unconscious instinct, dissolving the comprehensible in the depths of the irrational and infinite world of forms and non-forms, I try to use the sculptural motion of rhythms and colorful textures to capture and link together on the painted canvas the macro- and microcosms of mental, physical, and astral existence.” Alexander Rodin

“SUPPORT ALEXANDER RODIN TO SUPPORT ART” ACTION
HSH Nordbank has, with no title or rights held in its power, kidnapped the artworks of the Belarusian artist Alexander Rodin …
On December 7, 2011 at Kunsthaus Tacheles, the exhibition of Belarus artist Alexander Rodin was seized by Schwemer, Titz & Totter on behalf of HSH Nordbank. More than thirty security men dressed in black violently destroyed the door on the fifth floor of the arthouse and attacked the 64 year old artist then forced him to leave the exhibition space. The rooms have been taken over on behalf of the company hired by HSH Nordbank, and the works of art that were exhibited there have since been seized by the group of security men who continue to aggressively and violently occupy the space.

“SUPPORT ALEXANDER RODIN TO SUPPORT ART” ACTION:
We ask all artists who feel touched by what happened to support Alexander Rodin (as a representative artist, as an icon of what CAN happen to all of us) by donating one of your artworks (any kind of visual art) in order to be re-painted or re-interpreted by Alexander Rodin himself.
Conceptually and philosophically in this way each artist loses a piece of him or herself in order to give it to the threatened artist, a demonstrative act that underlines the fact that each of us IS Alexander.
To give away a piece of yourself is a very strong statement. In addition to the powerful symbolism, it is a direct and physical way to protest. We ask you to think about the society we are living in. We cannot accept being scared of losing our (life) works because someone suddenly comes and throws us out of our own space without any rights.
And, of course, it’s not only about artists. Right now, we are the allegory for what’s happening globally to all human beings!
We think that especially as artists we have to demonstrate our rejection of the status quo through our oun own language--ART!
Your work will be not lost. It will have even more value because it will be transormed and interpreted by two artists (the donor and the receiver).
The works will be shown in Tacheles’ New Gallery on the 4th floor from the moment they arrive until the end of the process.
Any proceeds from your donations will go to support the Tacheles Foundation Project. (scroll down for info)
A blog has been set up to show step by step the process of this action. There is no deadline, but it would be great to have the works as soon as possible because the problem is immediate and ongoing!
